Presentation on Collaborative Discussion Topic & Reader Responses (CDT/RR)

10 minutes for steps 1-4  (5 minutes x 2)

This presentation comes in two parts. Normally, the first part will focus on the CDT, and each group representative will have the chance to report. After the CDT discussion concludes, we will then move to presentations on the RRs, and each group representative will have the chance to report.

Note: Often electronic communication has an informal feel, and more relaxed discussion formats such as that for the CDTs allow us to rummage around a topic to try out ideas and opinions. The more relaxed mode is built into the class because rummaging is a good way to discover. However, the presentation to the class should move out of rummage mode and should distill the information for your peers by focusing, providing specific reference, and providing specific explanation and connections.

Steps:

  1. Prepare for the presentation. Have the materials you need at hand and have the text you want to reference marked for easy access. A handout is not required but might be the best way to prepare.

  2. Relate the one or two points or issues raised in the discussion that you believe are most important. Be focused and organized.

  3. Present two to three specific passages from your group's writings that clearly relate to the important points or issues you've selected; explain the connection.

  4. If useful connections exist between the two parts of the presentation, draw them, especially by referring back to the CDT discussion when reporting on the RRs.

  5. Open up the floor to respond to questions.
